Mountain Valley Meats is a family-owned, full-service local butcher shop located at 5605 Miller Road in Parkdale. Founded in 1951, it was sold in 2014 to Jason and Toria Johnston who have continued to run the butcher shop as a family-owned and operated business. Mountain Valley Meats now employs eight staff to meet the greatly increased demand for their products and services since the pandemic!
A retail shop was identified as key to the butcher shop’s expansion. In addition to opening up a whole new customer base, the smoking and curing operations have been moved into the retail shop to increase the butcher shop’s custom processing availability by about 35%.
To fund the building and equipment costs for the new store, the Johnston’s sought funding assistance from MCEDD’s loan program. Now open for business, quality locally processed meat is available both at the Mountain Valley Butcher Block store and online at www.mountainvalleymeat.com.
