Mission:
To promote the creation of family-wage jobs, the diversification of the economic base, and the growth, development and retention of business and industry within the five-county district.
Establishment
MCEDD was formed in 1969 by its member counties. The organization received federal designation as a District from the US Economic Development Administration in 1970.
MCEDD is organized as a government non-profit in Oregon as an ORS-190 and in Washington through RCW 39.34.010.
Governance
MCEDD is governed by a public-private board of directors representing counties, cities, ports, chambers, higher education and major private industries
Services
MCEDD serves a bi-state area composed of three counties in Oregon (Hood River, Wasco and Sherman) and two counties in Washington (Skamania and Klickitat) bordering the Columbia River. These counties share a common workforce, geography and economy. Through MCEDD, the communities can leverage their regional needs cohesively, with better access to economic development loans and grants, pooled technical assistance, and a unified approach to the area’s economic development needs.
