Examining Current Demographics and Trends, our March 9th Stronger Economies Together Session took place at the Sherman County Fairgrounds.
Materials for Session 3 include:
To round out the picture of the Mid-Columbia region we formed through our assets and challenges discussion in February we brought in our three regional economists to give us the numbers. Each of our local experts had a different focus to their discussion.
- Scott Bailey, Washington Department of Employment Security’s Regional Economist for SW Washington, looked at our demographic data including educational attainment, population, social characteristics and others.
- Dallas Fridley, Oregon Worksource Regional Economist for Region 9, talked about workforce in our region-including addressing the great eight workforce challenges.
- Don Meseck, Washington Department of Employment Security’s Regional Economist for South Central Washington, addressed industry and employment trends in the Mid-Columbia. His discussion highlighted growing and declining industries as well as cluster analysis.
In this session, we covered current demographics and involved participants in a discussion of the information presented and how it relates to our assets and challenges as well as the Stronger Economies Together process. Throughout the presentations and in our group activity participants gave input.

Participants stayed with us for our optional tour of Sherman County after the morning session concluded . We highlighted important community projects, the role volunteerism plays in development, and the renewable energy cluster.
Thanks to our hosts for the day:
