Technical Assistance

This area of MCEDD services emphasizes its role as the "go to" organization in the region to get projects moving.  MCEDD's specialization in grant writing and grant administration allows our stakeholders to outsource that duty to us and allows them to keep focused on what they do best. MCEDD's technical assistance has included:

Community Development Block Grants. Administered CDBG’s for City of Cascade Locks (fire station), High Prairie (fire hall/community center), and MCCAC (food distribution facility).

USDA Grants. Experience with Rural Business Enterprise Grants (RBEG) from USDA.

Environmental Protection Agency Grants. Administered a $970,000 grant for Lower John Day to improve water and wastewater infrastructure in the four counties of the Lower John Day region (Gilliam, Sherman, Wasco, and Wheeler). Total project cost will nearly $3 million and the communities receiving new infrastructure upgrades will be Dufur, Fossil, Lone Rock, and Wasco.

Transportation Coordination Grants.  MCEDD has assisted GorgeTransink since 2001, administering grants for market research, needs assessment, equipment and planning. Grants from ODOT, WSDOT and CTAA have helped Translink determine how best to improve coordination among the region's transportation providers. To learn more visit www.gorgetranslink.com and click on "regional planning."

Lower John Day Watershed: Bridging the gap between farmers, landowners and local governments, and natural resource organizations in the Lower John Day Basin.

Sherman County Economic Development. MCEDD provides part-time staffing assistance for Sherman County Economic Development. Recent projects include increasing workforce housing and resolving wastewater issues.

Wasco County Economic Development. MCEDD provides staffing assistance for the Wasco County Economic Development Commission.
