Loan
Client Profile - Yesterday and Today Music in The
Dalles
|
Mark
Thomas is a long time The Dalles music retailer
specializing in used CDs and vinyl records. When
Mark moved his store, Yesterday & Today Music,
to 317 East 2nd Street from a nearby side street,
part of the improvements he needed to do at his
new location included painting the building
exterior and putting up a store front sign. He enlisted the help of
friends and family move his entire inventory and
fixtures and covered the majority of the costs of
the move himself. However, he needed
additional funds to purchase and install a new
sign on the front of the store to attract walk-in
and holiday shoppers. He contacted the Small
Business Development Center and was referred to
Mid Columbia Economic Development District. Mark
applied for and received a small business loan
from MCEDD to help with the purchase of a new
custom sign for the front of his store and was
able to get the sign up and looking good for the
holiday shopping season. The exterior painting
work has recently been finished, so Yesterday
& Today Music is a bright and fresh addition
to the downtown business district.
This is another
visible and successful project that helped a local
business thrive through a partnership between the
local business, SBDC and MCEDD. For more
information on MCEDD's loan programs, visit the
MCEDD website or contact Eric Nerdin, MCEDD Loan
Fund Manager, at 541-296-2266.
As a
service to the regional business community and as
a strong part of our economic development strategy
for the region, MCEDD manages several business
loan programs that provide an accessible,
affordable source of capital for projects that
create and/or retain
jobs. |

Wasco County EDC Tours
County
|
On
November 12, members of the Wasco County Economic
Development Commission (EDC) and the Wasco County
Court visited several communities around the
county to learn about their economic issues. Stops
in Shaniko, Pine Grove, Maupin, Wamic, Pine Hollow
and Tygh Valley provided invaluable information.
In particular, many communities expressed concerns
about their drinking water systems, the need to
attract younger residents and opportunities for
employment. The EDC also used the opportunity as a
way to introduce the communities to the ways in
which the EDC can provide assistance, including
problem-solving and searches for project
funding.
MCEDD provides
support as the staff for the Wasco
County Economic Development Commission
(WEDC).
