CGBREZ wins award at WindPower 2009 Conference
Columbia Gorge Bi-State Renewable Energy Zone (CGBREZ) - a regional partnership between Oregon and Washington in the Columbia River Gorge - won a Best of Tradeshow award at the 2009 American Wind Energy Association Windpower 2009 conference in Chicago. The partnership, Columbia Gorge Bi-State Renewable Energy Zone, is a coalition of Wasco, Hood River, Sherman, Klickitat and Skamania counties. It was formed to develop the Columbia Gorge region as a world-class center of renewable energy research, development, manufacturing and application of technologies.

The Best of Tradeshow award is distinctive in recognizing this collaboration as the booth was one of over 1,280 exhibiting companies. Windpower 2009 is the world's largest wind conference and this year hosted over 23,000 attendees in addition to the exhibits.

Financial supporters for the exhibit include the counties, Oregon Department of Energy, Columbia Gorge Community College, PGE, and Pacific Power. For more information, visit www.cgbrez.org

Gorge Angel Conference - eProduce Sales Wins $105,000 Investment
On May 19 at the Gorge Angel Conference, eProduce Sales Inc. was awarded a $105,000 investment from GAIN II LLC (Gorge Angel Investor Network). eProduce Sales touts itself as the eBay of the fresh food industry. Its website serves as a central sales and marketing site for growers, distributors, brokers and retailers who buy and sell produce in large scale. As part of his pitch to GAIN II at the Conference, eProduce Sales President Randy Morrow said the company's corporate headquarters would be moved to Hood River.

Other finalists who made presentations were Hood River company Outside Baby, LLC and Gorge software company 4Tell, LLC.

Oregon Investment Board Funds Gorge Technology Alliance
The Oregon Investment Board (OIB) awarded $9,300 in grant funds to the Columbia River Gorge Technology Alliance (GTA) in February. OIB funds will support the GTA in developing an organizational sustainability plan. While the GTA has successfully promoted technology businesses in the Gorge for five years, a sustainability and growth plan will take the organization to the next level. Technology businesses have chosen to locate in the Gorge as a result of GTA's activities. These high-paying jobs are very important for diversifying the traditional rural economic base of agriculture and timber. By helping strengthen and broaden the activities of the GTA, the sustainability and growth plan will enable the GTA to increase and improve its ability to start, grow, expand and sustain high tech companies in the Gorge. For more information about the GTA visit http://www.crgta.org

MCEDD provides staffing for the Oregon Investment Board. For more information on grants and loans available through the OIB, visit http://www.mcedd.org/oib.htm

Community Profile  - Stevenson, WA
Every month, MCEDD will provide profiles for the communities we serve to offer our region a comprehensive view of the region. This month we feature the City of Stevenson in Skamania County, Washington.

On the banks of the scenic Columbia River, the City of Stevenson is home to unique shops, art galleries, local restaurants, and an award-winning local brewpub. Downtown Stevenson also provides a wealth of recreational opportunities.  Time in Stevenson can be spent kiteboarding, golfing, picnicking, scenic strolls, free Wi-FI, museums, and many other enjoyable activities.

Even with all that Stevenson currently offers, the urban area, encompassing just over 3,000 acres, is just over half full and ready for quality developments that will add to, and improve the urban fabric. Vacant land in the City of Stevenson includes 14 commercial spaces.

Whether looking to explore Stevenson for business or pleasure, agencies like MCEDD, Skamania County Economic Development Council, and the Skamania County Chamber of Commerce can help you on your journey.
