Loan
Client Profile - Zink Clothing
|
In
March of 2007 Israel Ayala-Guevara attended a "How
to Start an Oregon Business" class at the Columbia
Gorge Community College Small Business Development
Center and was inspired to open his own company to
provide DJ music services, screen printing
services and an urban clothing line. With a start
up loan from Mid-Columbia Economic
Development District, Israel was able to
purchase a new silk screening press and the
necessary equipment and supplies to jumpstart his
business: Zink Clothing.
Israel located his
new company in The Dalles. He is currently a
student at Columbia Gorge Community College
pursuing a degree in Business Management. "I want
to strongly encourage other Gorge area residents
to seek out and use our local resources that are
available to help build our dreams and transform
our lives, so we can make the great Columbia Gorge
a stronger community," Israel
stated. For more information on
MCEDD's loan programs, visit the MCEDD website or
contact Eric Nerdin, MCEDD Loan Fund Manager at
541-296-2266.
As a service to the regional business
community and as a strong part of our economic
development strategy for the region, MCEDD manages
several business loan programs that provide an
accessible, affordable source of capital for
projects that create and/or retain jobs. These
loan funds can be used to contribute to the
financing needed by a business to purchase or
build new facilities, purchase equipment, provide
working capital or many other
purposes.

Governor Signs Transportation Bill |
On
July 29, 2009 Governor Kulongoski signed the Jobs and
Transportation Act of 2009 (JTA). The bill
provides an annual investment of $300 million to
address deferred maintenance for roads and
bridges. Additionally the bill provides more than
$800 million in bond proceeds to relieve key
bottlenecks, improve existing facilities and
address safety concerns. The bill also continues
the Connect Oregon program to improve ports, rail
systems, transit and airports. Parts of the bill
are also aimed at minimizing the transportation

Community
Profile - Moro, Oregon
|
Nestled between two hills straddling Highway
97 in northern Sherman County lies the county seat
of Moro. Moro is surrounded by wheat fields,
a main industry of the County, and to the
northeast by many large windmills. In the recent
past Moro has suffered the loss of its lumber yard
and hardware store, but is resilient and
resourceful with plans to improve and expand its
sewage system. With its completion, options for
businesses that can locate or relocated in the
City of Moro will expand.
A number of people have told of their
experience being so impressed by their drive
through Moro that after a mile or so they turn
around and come back into town looking for a place
to rent or buy. That in itself speaks well for the
town and residents. Moro has a first class
nationally recognized museum, a beautiful
City Park with restrooms and a first class High
School with similar sports facilities and
businesses that are more than willing to cater to
the public. MCEDD provides a
monthly profile to support a regional
understanding of the Columbia River Gorge
communities. This profile was provided by Larry
Triebelhorn, Mayor of Moro.
